Almost one month to go and the Philippine Homeschool Conference 2017 is here! I’m so excited to get my yearly dose of equipping from homeschooling experts and pioneers. c”,) I don’t have the luxury of attending workshops on a regular basis. This is why I look forward to attending the homeschool conference. It’s like my ultimate training slash adrenaline shot slash gearing up day. Haha!
Whether you’re a seasoned homeschooler, a newbie, or somewhere in between, I highly encourage you to attend this year’s conference. Here are some of the benefits you’ll get from being there:
See all the homeschoolers in one place.Â
There’s nothing like seeing a gathering of passionate homeschoolers together. There are husbands and wives, moms with babies in tow, homeschooled teens—all the kindred spirits you could ever ask for is there. They share the same vision for home education, the same passion for learning, and the same drive to increase homeschool awareness. It’s so reassuring to see that we’re not alone in this! There’s a battalion of homeschoolers out there! c”,)
Get expert insights from those who’s been there, done that.Â
Every year, the PHC team brings in speakers who are experts and pioneers in the field of homeschooling. Hearing their practical tips and personal experience helps me in many ways. I take a lot of notes because I won’t get the chance to see most of these people again! I also feel like a student once more trying to absorb everything that my teacher tells me. c”,)
When you come to the conference, come with a blank slate. I try to leave my own system behind when I attend the PHC. Why? Because I don’t want to miss out on learning and trying something new!
Have access to the latest homeschool materials.Â
You know you’re talking to a homeschool parent when her eyes light up when you mention the word curriculum. Haha! It’s like we’re all eager to know the best resources out there so we can give our children the best possible learning experience. You’ll have access to that when you attend the PHC! There will be booths from different publishers and suppliers. Woohoo! Parents, it’s called shopping for a cause. Haha!
Get emotionally and spiritually uplifted.Â
One of the things I love about the PHC core team is that they also prioritize the emotional and spiritual upliftment of homeschooling families. I am reminded each time that God is the giver of all wisdom and strength. Even the speakers recognize God’s grace sustaining them every homeschooling year. They also keep it real, sharing real-life learnings and experiences, which makes them relatable. c”,)
Meet new homeschooling families.
There are more than 8,000 members in our Homeschoolers of the Philippines Facebook page and more than 5,000 in our Homeschooling the Early Years PH page. That means there are thousands of homeschooling parents you haven’t met yet! Most of them attend the PHC and this is the perfect place to meet them! Don’t forget to get the contact details of the new people you meet. Add them on social media, too! The homeschooling community is a tight-knit one so don’t hesitate to ask for help or support. c”,)
If you’re one of my readers and you happen to see me at the conference, please say hi! I’m very approachable and I don’t bite. Haha! I’d love to meet you! c”,)
Receive affirmation and validation (my personal favorite).Â
Knowing and seeing that there are hundreds of parents who are on the same journey as we are is very encouraging. It affirms our decision to homeschool even more. Usually, the PHC team invites people from DepEd and other educators. These people validate what we are doing. They recognize us and acknowledge our homeschooling efforts. You may be the only parent homeschooling in your neighborhood but that doesn’t mean that what you’re doing is not legit. Your home is as real and recognized as other educational institutions. c”,) Press on, parents!
